About me

I was born in Switzerland in 1973, after which my parents emigrated to South Africa in 1975. During my stay there until 1990, I attended the National School of the Arts (NSA) from 1986-1990, where I specialized in visual arts such as photography, graphics and design. In 1990, after the fall of the Iron Curtain, my parents emigrated to what was then Czechoslovakia, where I was accepted for studies at the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague in 1991. I specialized in documentary and editorial photography in the studios of Pavel Dias, Pavel Štecha and Viktor Kolář. After my graduation, with a BA Fine Arts in 1995, I worked for various newspapers and photographed for magazines and club promoters, documenting various events, features etc. From 2000-2008, I took a break from photography and studied Protestant Theology at Charles University. My speciality areas in photography include photojournalism and feature photography, portraits and macro. Besides technical competence, it is of utmost importance to me that I capture my subjects in a way that reveals something about their inner selves. I take a relatively purist approach and edit images in a way that keeps the image looking natural and like a photograph rather than digital art.
